Extraordinary People through History

September 30, 2020

This week our brand new topic “Extraordinary People through History” has started!

Our children have been busy learning about lots of different people who have changed the world as we know it. These are people in arts, science, sport and leaders of change. As well as learning a little bit about why they are so important to us we have been teaching our children about their values, many are similar to those that we have at Woodlands.

Our Pre-Schoolers have been learning about David Attenborough who is extremely influential in current times in protecting the planet. As well as exploring nature through our Provocation tables, the children have been making bird feeders and making binoculars. They have been encouraged to go on sound walks at home with their family to listen out for natural sounds in the environment.

Our Busy bees have been learning about a number of incredible people that have shaped history including Barack Obama, Roald Dahl and Martin Luther King.

They were inspired by Martin Luther King’s famous speech “I have a dream” and spoke about what dreams they have for their futures and why it is important to dream big.

Baby Bees have been exploring space, inspired by Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon! As well as reading the story “Zoom to the Moon” they have played in their own moon inspired messy tray and painted their own moons!

We are looking forward to learning about more influential people next week!
